Fall 2021- Day 2

Day two recap: Vatican, Swiss Guard, so many columns- felt like a hobbit entering Erebor, Rivendell, and Moria (before the trolls took it over) all at the same time. More art and priceless treasures in one corner of one room than I've seen in every museum and historical place I've ever been to or thought of going to in the entirety of my life, and we probably didn't even see 1/3 of it. Crucified Christ playing king of the mountain with a Roman God and winning. Rafael selfies. Bernini fountains. A giant pinecone.

Two nuns, three priests, no dogs. Guess they're only allowed to be visible outside the Vatican walls.

Happy hour... In. The. Vatican.

Dinner on an island that has only 4 buildings, one of which is a church...the most delicious pineapple I've ever eaten. WWII Jewish ghetto next to Ancient ruins (no cats this time, or they were out hunting more souls to eat) with apartments built into and around them. Found my brother-in-law, Matty's

piazza and there's a fountain dedicated to turtles in the middle of it. On the walk home from dinner, found the most gorgeous Synagogue I've ever seen. Got stalked by churches... Literally every time we turned around there was another one. Stumbled across Piazza Navona and another enormous church. Giant doors. So many giant doors. I guess Romans used to be much taller.

Stopped into a bar for a night cap, people watched. Three dogs, one priest, no nuns.
